Hometown

Cannon County

I cross that county line and breathe a sigh of relief. I know that I’ve made it to my safe place, the place I call home. A place where we say, oddly enough,  our car drives better. The place that has raised me up from birth and helped my parents grow me into the man I am today.

The place I will lay my head in the field of clover for the last time when God calls me home.

The back roads that wind along the creek beds and mountainous hills that fog rolls over and sunsets fall on that take me to the places I love to explore on Sunday afternoons. The million dollar bridge that honors the fallen, and when you drive over it and look out over the hills it reminds you of why we chose this beautiful place to live.

The place that has three red lights that turn at their own pace. Two grocery stores that have provided groceries to create those country meals that my Meme makes me on Sunday evenings. Four banks to safely store money for the hardworking people of the county. Three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school that have taught me life lessons that I will hold close to my heart. Friday night lights that shine down on fields of competition and teams that laid their hearts on the line for their hometowns. Fourteen restaurants that have fed me not only food but have given places to share stories and memories that I’ll cherish for a lifetime. Two coffee shops that have caffeinated me so that I can make it through another day.

56 churches that have gathered, worshiped, and prayed for me through my struggles. 15,063 people in one place who have shown nothing but love and support in my journey. One county that has heart, compassion, faith and community andwill show up in time of need. A place I will always call home and love with all my heart! A place that is called Woodbury. A place I call my hometown.

Cannon County, Tennessee.
